Stage 1 — the white cross
Four white edges on the bottom, side colours matching
Goal: A white cross on the bottom face, with each edge's second colour matching the centre next to it.
Look for the four edge pieces that have a white sticker. Each one belongs between the white centre and the centre that matches its other colour.
Take them one at a time. Bring the edge into the top layer, turn the top until it sits directly above the centre that matches its side colour, then turn that face twice to drop it down to the bottom.
If an edge is already on the bottom but in the wrong place, turn that face twice to bring it up into the top layer first, then place it properly.
When you finish, the bottom looks like a white plus sign and the sides show a T shape of matching colour.
Watch it happen
Edge above its home: turn that face twice
F2
The white-green edge sits above the green centre, so F2 drops it straight in.
Edge in the middle layer: lift it out first
R' U' R U
Small setups like this bring a trapped edge up to the top so you can place it.
Worth knowing
- Always match the side colour with its centre before dropping the edge down — a white cross with mismatched sides can't be finished.
